Why financial literacy matters in paying for college and repaying student loan debt

Thank you so much for visiting graduationdebt.org. I write and speak about paying for college and repaying student loans because I genuinely believe fear and lack of understanding has led to parents sacrificing their own futures to fund their kids’ education and graduates who default on a student loan simply because they didn’t have the best information.

I know firsthand about defaults. I defaulted on 1 out of 16 undergraduate loans because I didn’t know it existed. If I had just looked up my loans once in several years on the National Student Loan Data System, I would have noticed that one student loan didn’t get consolidated with the others. While I made affordable payments to rehabilitate my loan and the default was removed from my credit report, it didn’t have to happen. I teach how to find the status of all your student loans, choose among repayment plans, decide among options when you can’t afford your payments, save for college, and make smart choices when choosing among colleges.

Whether you’re here because you’re a high school or college student, a parent, a borrower with student loan debt, or a university or high school representative, this website provides resources you can use as well samples of both of my books.

Feel free to contact me anytime at the contact links provided. To ask me student loan or paying for college questions, I check my twitter regularly @reynagobel. You can also attend one of my seminars or webinars.

Have a wonderful day!
